Last tape3:02:16PERFORMATIVE JUSTICE: Firsthand Recap of the Tyler Robinson Hearing

The preliminary hearing in Utah was not a trial. It was a filter: what the state needed a judge to hear in order to bind a case over, and what a media class needed a clip to do in order to keep a story simple.

Artifex was in the room. The three-hour recap is the primary record for this desk. The live from the hearing day remains up as a companion, technical faults and all. The tape is the point.

What “performative” means here

Not that the court is fake. Not that a dead man is a prop. Performative, in the old sense: a proceeding that also had to look like a proceeding for an audience that had already voted.

A decade of campus tours taught a specific lesson about cameras. They do not just document. They discipline. They tell a room which facts are for the highlight and which facts are for the hallway. That lesson does not expire because the deceased was a colleague.

On the docket

  • The stream from inside coverage: LIVE from Utah: Tyler Robinson Preliminary Hearing.
  • The recap: PERFORMATIVE JUSTICE, posted after the gavel.
  • The next date the desk is marking: October 23, 2026, 1:00pm MST.

This file will be updated when the October date produces a new tape. Until then, the recap is the cite, not a thread.

How to read it

Watch the recap before you argue about it. If you were not in the room, you are downstream of someone who was. Downstream is allowed. Inventing a room is not.

Tips, documents, and contemporaneous notes: submit them.
